Lady Cougars Soccer defeat Red Dragons

COUGAR PROUD!

Lady Cougars Varsity Soccer Team 4

St. Albans Red Dragons 0

Our girls hustled and played hard tonight- playing until the final second again.  We look forward to keeping the positive momentum going as we head to Hurricane Wednesday.

The scoring was shared among several players: Lizzie Strazzula and Claire Bailey each scored and Isabella Hill and Carley Browning each assisted one another to finish on goals.

Capital High Seniors traveled to the State Capitol on February 2 to lobby senators and delegates on current legislation.

The trip was the final step in a unit in Civics in which students researched their representatives and bills currently being considered in the WV State Legislature.  Students did in-depth research into the bills that concerned them using newspaper articles.  They contacted representatives to ask for information and set up appointments to visit representatives in their offices.

To start the day, students sat in on a portion of the Senate or House sessions and visited informational booths from Fairness WV, WV Osteopathic college, ACLU, Our Children Our Future and many more.    Throughout the day, they lobbied using their set appointments and “cold calls” to representatives offices.  This was part of All Are Welcome in WV day at the Capitol.  The attendees would like to thank especially Delegates Larry L. Rowe, Mike Pushkin, Andrew Robinson, and Charlotte Lane for taking extra time out of their very busy day to assist us in connecting to the correct delegates, discussing bills, giving advice and making sure our day was very productive and a great experience.

These Cougars represented the school in stellar fashion.  Politics is messy business and these students showed everyone who came into contact with them that this generation is paying attention and is a force to be reckoned with.
