Capital High School provides a daycare for the students and faculty, commonly preferred to as "Baby Cougars". Ms. Amy is the director of the daycare with the help of Ms. Phyllis and Ms. Julia as well as the students. Ms. Amy has 8 classes of students that do hands on work with the babies. Before you can help in the daycare or take Ms. Amy's class, you must complete one year of child development with Ms. Ruth Miller. The daycare operates on same days that Kanawha County Schools are open.
Goals Of Daycare
- To provide a happy, war and nurturing environment for each child
- To provide for each child's intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth and nutritional needs
- To provide a comprehensive interactive curriculum for teenagers enrolled in the Child Development classes so they are aware of the duties and responsibilities of parenthood and they are better prepared for possible careers in child related fields
There are up to 12 spots for babies in the daycare with currently 10 spots taken. We accept babies from 6 weeks to kindergarten.
High School Students that would like to enroll their child into the daycare must follow the policy. The policy basically has to do with attendance. There should be no more than 5 unexcused absences within a 9 week period or no more than 3 absences or unexcused tardies in one class. If the student breaks the attendance contract then their baby will be dropped from the daycare list. If you are rude or disrespectful to the staff, if you spread any rumors or mistruths which could damage the daycare program, your child will also be dropped from the daycare list. The daycare is also provided to faculty, except faculty have to pay for daycare service here at the school. If you are interested in you baby being in the daycare, you will be put on a waiting list. To be put on the waiting list, you need to call the daycare and give Ms. Amy your name, your phone number, your due date, and the date of the phone call.
Babies come in the same time as students and faculty. Various activities take place throughout the day in the daycare. The babies are feed breakfast, snacks, and lunch. The babies are changed when needed. Playtime is in the hallway, classroom, and also outside during appropriate weather. We read books to the babies, take walks in the hallways and also take naps when needed. Change of clothes, diapers, bottles, formula, baby food, snacks (if you want) all need to brought with your baby daily.
Any complaints by parents or daycare must be made within seven days of the problem. A parent handbook is provided with any information you need.
