WVU Tech High School Programming Competition

Dear Faculty,

The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at WVU Institute of Technology is excited to announce and invite high school students (incoming 9th-12th graders) to the fourth annual WVU Tech High School Programming Competition.  The competition will be on Saturday, November 04, 2017 at the Carter Hall Building at the WVU Tech campus in Beckley, WV. Please register by October 27, 2017.

The competition will be an all-day event, where students will test their problem-solving and programming skills on several problems of varying difficulty.  Lunch will be provided, and we will have refreshments after the competition.  Cash prizes will be awarded to each student in the top three teams.  The exact amounts are to be determined.  In the past, the prizes have been $100 for each member on the third place team, $200 for each member on the second place team, and $300 for each member on the first place team.  We are hoping to provide the same amounts for this year’s competition.

In addition, eligible members of the top three teams will receive scholarships to attend WVU Tech.  Each member on the third place team will be eligible for up to $1,000, each member on the second place team will be eligible for up to $2,000, and each member on the first place team will be eligible for up to $3,000.  These scholarships are renewable for up to four years, on the condition that they meet the eligibility requirements as specified by our financial aid department.

I have enclosed the official rules of the competition, a schedule outlining the events, and a flyer announcing the competition with this letter.  Please feel free to make copies for your students.

Please follow the link for the registration. (Registration is free.)

More information about the competition and practice questions is available here.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you for your time and consideration, and we hope to see you at the competition.

Sincerely,
Sanish Rai, Ph.D.

The Capital RAZE Club won a statewide competition between  all RAZE Clubs that attended the Tobacco Free Day at the Capitol.  We. alone donated $210.00.  The total calculated from all was over $1000.00.  For winning the competition we were able to donate the entire amount to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Thanks to all.
