Mr. William Dorsey:

dorsey

I have been teaching at Capital High School for 20 years. Most of my jobs have included teaching in one form or another. I have worked as a corporate trainer for Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurants and AT&T. I found that I enjoyed teaching and decided to couple that with my degree in zoology at the high school level. I am a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School which later merged with Charleston High School to form what we know as Capital High School today. I earned a BS in Zoology from Marshall University and a MA in Education from Marshall Graduate College. I enjoy the ah-ha moments I get to experience with students, sharing those gross little facts about biology that most of us either ignore or don't know about in our day-to-day lives as a way of helping students see the interest in science. What I find hardest currently is competing with social media and the need for instant gratification that often keeps students from putting the time in to see the benefits that effort can earn. I also work as a Virtual Biology Instructor for Kanawha County Schools and the WV Department of Education. I travel each year to help grade AP Biology exams and enjoy as much personal travel as time allows. I am the Marshall University SCORES sponsor, one of the Capital High School Academic Coaches, as well as the Capital High School Faculty Senate President. I also help run the Capital High School HSTA (Health Science and Technology Academy) which provides an opportunity for students to earn in-state college tuition waivers.
