🚍 New Way to Find KCS Bus Changes 🚍

We’ve added a “Bus Changes” quick link at the top of the KCS website!

✅ This link will take you to a page with all AM and PM bus changes, organized by terminal.
✅ Beginning Tuesday(9/2), district-wide bus changes will ONLY be posted on this page by the KCS Transportation Department.
✅ Some schools may still share their own school-specific bus changes on Schoology, but district-wide updates will not appear on Schoology anymore.

👉 Be sure to check the “Bus Changes” link daily for the most up-to-date information.

We hope this makes it easier for families to quickly find the information you need!

🎓✨ Introducing: Path to the Stage ✨🎓

At Kanawha County Schools, our goal is simple but powerful: every student graduates high school on time with their cohort.

That journey doesn’t just begin senior year—it starts the moment a student walks through our doors. To celebrate the big steps and the small ones, we’re launching a new weekly feature called Path to the Stage. Each week, we’ll share stories of students across KCS who are building their futures one milestone at a time.

📍 Our first spotlight takes us to Carver Career Center, where first-year students in the Carpentry program (high school juniors) kicked off with an icebreaker lesson. Using a simple tape measure, students practiced teamwork and communication—and even learned the importance of a professional handshake.

Because Career & Technical Education (CTE) is more than just mastering a trade. It’s about building the soft skills—like confidence, professionalism, and communication—that will carry students from the classroom to graduation… and beyond.

👏 Congratulations for taking this important step on your Path to the Stage!

🌊🏝️ Shipwrecked at Capital High! 🏝️🌊

Capital High School's senior civics class set sail on a history adventure like no other. After a storm “wrecked” their cruise ship on a deserted island, each group had to build a brand-new society from the ground up!

💡 Students designed their own systems of leadership, created laws, defined essential rights, developed food and water plans, established public safety strategies, and even named and designed flags for their island nations.

Through this engaging activity, students discovered the importance of rules and regulations to build a fair, safe, and structured society. 🌟

From stormy seas to founding fathers (and mothers!), these Cougars learned history by living it. 👏

👟💙 We are so grateful for Kids of Kanawha!

Before the first bell of the school year rang, they made sure students across Kanawha County were prepared by donating brand-new shoes to:

Pratt Elementary • Riverside High • Dupont Middle • Malden Elementary • Edgewood Elementary • West Side Middle • Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary • Flinn Elementary • Capitol High • Hayes Middle • Cedar Grove Elementary

Their generosity is a wonderful reminder of how strong our community is when we come together to support students. Thank you, Kids of Kanawha, for investing in our children and helping them start the year with confidence! 🙌✨

🎓 Graduation Week is Almost Here! 🚴‍♂️ ⚠️ Heads up! The City of Charleston has shared some helpful info about the best routes to use when heading to the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center between Monday, May 19 – Monday, May 26. During that time, the city will be hosting the USA Cycling Pro Road Races, which means some roads will be closed around Charleston. At the same time, six of our Kanawha County high schools will be celebrating graduation at the Coliseum! To help make sure everyone gets to their ceremonies on time (and without too much stress), we encourage families and guests to use the routes provided on the flyer. 🎉 Let’s make graduation week a smooth ride for everyone — and a time to celebrate all our amazing grads! 📍Check out the flyer for all the details, and feel free to share with anyone who might be heading downtown.

These students are tackling triangle proofs right now—just one part of a fast-paced curriculum that lets them complete both Algebra 1 and Honors Geometry during their freshman year. This kind of head start means they’ll be ready for AP Calculus or College Algebra by their junior year—opening the door to even more opportunities down the road. 🚪📚 It’s exciting to see them challenge themselves and grow every day. 💡🎓
