🌊🐟 From the Classroom to the Creek — Malden Students Making Waves! 🐟🌊 Morris Creek Watershed in Montgomery is now home to 25 more brown trout! 🎉📸 Students from Malden Elementary gathered to release the trout they’ve been raising all year as part of the Trout in the Classroom program. For the past 10 years, Malden teacher Tonya Crist has led this, hands-on program that turns students into young scientists, conservationists, and changemakers. They raise trout from eggs, test water quality, explore food webs, and learn the importance of protecting our environment — all while having a blast doing it! 🧪🌿 Thanks to hard work form countless people in the community — and the ongoing partnership with the Morris Creek Watershed Association — Malden students get to be part of something real and impactful. 🙌💧 Today’s event was a true celebration of learning, legacy, and environmental renewal. Former Malden students, now in Riverside High School’s Grow Your Own program and Marshall University’s Biology & Environmental Science program, returned to present their award-winning STEM projects — from boosting firefly and bat populations 🦇✨ to supporting native pollinators 🌼🐝. Two even won the National STEM Challenge Championship and presented their research in Washington, D.C.! 🔬 After the release, students went on a hayride, did STEM activities (thanks to the WVSU 4H program for providing the STEM kits), and made some animal tracks! 👏 We're so proud of these students, past and present, for showing what’s possible when education meets purpose. 📷💪

⏳⏩ The days are long but the years are fast — or so it seems during graduation season 🎓 Amanda Mays always knew she wanted to be an elementary principal — in 2011, she did just that when she took the head job at Belle Elementary School. 👩‍🏫 Mrs. Mays' first year as principal was also the first year the students pictured below started school — as preschoolers at Belle Elementary. In just a few hours, those same students are graduating from Riverside High School! 🧑‍🎓 👏 Before accepting their diplomas, those students stoped by the KCS Board Office, where Mrs. Mays is now the Asst. Superintendent of Elementary Schools, for a few pictures and lots of laughs with their former principal. The bonds made and memories shared in education will last a lifetime!

🎓 Graduation Week is Almost Here! 🚴‍♂️ ⚠️ Heads up! The City of Charleston has shared some helpful info about the best routes to use when heading to the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center between Monday, May 19 – Monday, May 26. During that time, the city will be hosting the USA Cycling Pro Road Races, which means some roads will be closed around Charleston. At the same time, six of our Kanawha County high schools will be celebrating graduation at the Coliseum! To help make sure everyone gets to their ceremonies on time (and without too much stress), we encourage families and guests to use the routes provided on the flyer. 🎉 Let’s make graduation week a smooth ride for everyone — and a time to celebrate all our amazing grads! 📍Check out the flyer for all the details, and feel free to share with anyone who might be heading downtown.

🇺🇸 Military Signing Week 🇺🇸 This week, we are celebrating students during Military Signing Week— these young men and women who have made the brave and selfless decision to serve our country by enlisting in the United States Armed Forces. Watching these students sign their commitment to serve the United States has been inspiring. These aren’t just names on paper—they’re our classmates, friends, and neighbors who are stepping up to something greater than themselves. We are so proud of each of you. Thank you for choosing a path that protects and uplifts others. 💙❤️ 📸 : Pictured here are signing military signing ceremonies at Riverside High School, South Charleston High School, and St. Albans High School
